Gathering Song

I Thank God (Maverick City)

Verse 1
Wandering into the night,
wanting a place to hide
this weary soul,
this bag of bones.

Verse 2
I try with all my might,
but I just can't win the fight.
I'm slowly drifting,
a vagabond.

Pre-Chorus 1
And just when I ran out of road,
I met a man I didn't know.
And he told me that I was not alone.

Chorus
You picked me up, You turned me around
and placed my feet on solid ground.
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior,
because You healed my heart,
You changed my name.
Forever free, I'm not the same.
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior,
I thank God.

Verse 3
I cannot deny what I've seen;
got no choice but to believe.
My doubts are burning
like ashes in the wind.

Verse 4
So so long to my old friends:
burden and bitterness.
You can just keep them moving,
nah they ain't welcome here.

Pre-Chorus 2
From now till I walk streets of gold,
I'll sing of how You saved my soul.
This wayward son has found his way back home.

Chorus
You picked me up, You turned me around
and placed my feet on solid ground.
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior,
because You healed my heart,
You changed my name.
Forever free, I'm not the same.
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior,
I thank God.

Bridge
Christ took my sin away. I am free.
I am free. I am free.

Chorus
You picked me up, You turned me around
and placed my feet on solid ground.
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior,
because You healed my heart,
You changed my name.
Forever free, I'm not the same.
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior,
I thank God.

The Sacrament of Baptism

Presentation of Children and Profession of Faith

Pastor:
Do you, as Christ's body, the Church,
reaffirm both your rejection of sin
and your commitment to Christ?

Congregation:
We do.

Pastor:
Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include these children now before you in your care?

Congregation:
With God's help we will proclaim the good news
and live according to the example of Christ.
We will surround these children
with a community of love and forgiveness,
that they may grow in their service to others.
We will pray for them,
that they may be true disciples
who walk in the way that leads to life.

Pastor:
Let us join together in professing the Christian faith
as contained in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.

Do you believe in God the Father?

All:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

Pastor:
Do you believe in Jesus Christ?

All:
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Pastor:
Do you believe in the Holy Spirit?

All:
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

Commendation and Welcome

Pastor:
Members of the household of God,
I commend these children to your love and care.
Do all in your power to increase their faith,
confirm their hope, and perfect them in love.

Congregation:
We give thanks for all that God has already given you
and we welcome you in Christian love.
As members together with you
in the body of Christ
and in this congregation
of The United Methodist Church,
we renew our covenant
faithfully to participate
in the ministries of the Church
by our prayers, our presence,
our gifts, our service and our witness,
that in everything God may be glorified
through Jesus Christ.

Who You Say I Am (Ligertwood)

Verse 1
Who am I that the highest King
would welcome me.
I was lost but He brought me in.
Oh, His love for me.
Oh, His love for me.

Chorus
Who the Son sets free, oh is free indeed.
I'm a child of God, Yes I am.

Verse 2
Free at last, He has ransomed me,
His grace runs deep.
While I was a slave to sin,
Jesus died for me.
Yes, He died for me.

Who the Son sets free, oh is free indeed.
I'm a child of God, Yes I am.
In my Father's house there's a place for me.

Scripture Reading

Ephesians 4:11-16 (NRSV) [Read in Context]

11He himself granted that some are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers 12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. 14We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine by people's trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15but speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by every ligament with which it is equipped, as each part is working properly, promotes the body's growth in building itself up in love.

The word of God for the people of God.

All: Thanks be to God!

Sermon

Pastor Whitney Peper

Communion

Leader:
We are called to the table,
to share the juice and bread,
I want you to remember me,
Jesus softly said.
All: We come to the table.

Leader:
We think about the mystery —
the words that Jesus said,
And how He gave His life for us
as we break the bread.
All: We come to the table.

Leader:
Gathered at the table,
God's Holy Spirit here,
We drink the cup of blessing,
the bread of life we share.
All: We come to the table.

Leader:
Together in communion,
one family — young and old,
We celebrate together,
as ancient words are told.
All: We come to the table.

Leader:
There's room at the table,
no matter how we feel,
Jesus meets us here
in this holy meal.
All: We come to the table.

Leader:
We rise from the table,
forgiven, loved, and free.
We leave to be the people
who God calls us to be.
All: We come to the table.

Leader:
Gathered at the table,
surrounded by God's grace,
We are one Christian family,
in every time and place.
All: We come to the table.

Please repeat the mystery of faith after me, so ALL of our kids can participate:

Leader: Christ has died;
All: Christ has died;

Leader: Christ is risen;
All: Christ is risen;

Leader: Christ will come again.
All: Christ will come again.

The Blessing:
Pour out your Holy Spirit
on everybody here,
and bless these gifts
of bread and juice.
As we eat and pray,
let us remember that Jesus saved us
and that we need to share
that good news with the whole world.
Through Your Son Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit
in Your holy Church,
all good things are Yours,
almighty Father, now and forever.
Amen.

Please repeat the Lord's Prayer after me, so ALL of our kids can participate:

Leader: Our Father, who art in heaven,
All: Our Father, who art in heaven,

Leader: hallowed be Thy name.
All: hallowed be Thy name.

Leader: Thy kingdom come,
All: Thy kingdom come,

Leader: Thy will be done
All: Thy will be done

Leader: on earth as it is in heaven.
All: on earth as it is in heaven.

Leader: Give us this day our daily bread.
All: Give us this day our daily bread.

Leader: And forgive us our trespasses,
All: And forgive us our trespasses,

Leader: as we forgive those who trespass against us.
All: as we forgive those who trespass against us.

Leader: And lead us not into temptation,
All: And lead us not into temptation,

Leader: but deliver us from evil.
All: but deliver us from evil.

Leader: For Thine is the kingdom,
All: For Thine is the kingdom,

Leader: and the power,
All: and the power,

Leader: and the glory, forever.
All: and the glory, forever.

Leader: Amen.
All: Amen.

Forever Reign (Morgan)

Verse 1
You are good, You are good,
when there's nothing good in me.
You are love, You are love,
on display for all to see.
You are light, You are light,
when the darkness closes in.
You are hope, You are hope,
You have covered all my sin.

Verse 2
You are peace, You are peace,
when my fear is crippling.
You are true, You are true,
even in my wandering.
You are joy, You are joy,
You're the reason that I sing.
You are life, You are life,
in You death has lost its sting.

Chorus
I'm running to Your arms,
I'm running to Your arms.
The riches of Your love will always be enough.
Nothing compares to Your embrace.
Light of the world, forever reign.

Verse 3
You are more, You are more,
than my words will ever say.
You are Lord, You are Lord,
all creation will proclaim.
You are here, You are here,
in Your presence I'm made whole.
You are God, You are God;
of all else I'm letting go.

Chorus (2x)
I'm running to Your arms,
I'm running to Your arms.
The riches of Your love will always be enough.
Nothing compares to Your embrace.
Light of the world, forever reign.

Bridge (4x)
My heart will sing, no other Name.
Jesus, Jesus.

Chorus (2x)
I'm running to Your arms,
I'm running to Your arms.
The riches of Your love will always be enough.
Nothing compares to Your embrace.
Light of the world, forever reign.

Bridge (4x)
My heart will sing, no other Name.
Jesus, Jesus.
