Affirmation of Faith

Apostle's Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried;
the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Worship through Song

Rattle! (Lake/Brown/Furtick)

Verse 1
Saturday was silent
Surely it was through
But since when has impossible
Ever stopped You

Verse 2
Friday's disappointment
Is Sunday's empty tomb
Since when has impossible
Ever stopped You

Chorus 1
This is the sound of dry bones rattling
This is the praise make a dead man walk again
Open the grave I'm coming out
I'm gonna live gonna live again
This is the sound of dry bones rattling

Verse 3
Pentecostal fire
Stirring something new
You're not gonna run out of miracles
Anytime soon

Verse 4
Resurrection power
Runs in my veins too
I believe there's another miracle
Here in this room

Chorus 1
This is the sound of dry bones rattling
This is the praise make a dead man walk again
Open the grave I'm coming out
I'm gonna live gonna live again
This is the sound of dry bones rattling

Bridge
My God is able to save and deliver and heal
And restore anything that He wants to
Just ask the man who was thrown
On the bones of Elisha
If there's anything that He can't do
Just ask the stone that was rolled
At the tomb in the garden
What happens when God says to move
I feel God moving it now
I feel God doing it now
I feel God doing it now
Do it now, do it now

Chorus 2
This is the sound of dry bones rattling
This is the praise make a dead man walk again
Open the grave, I'm coming out
I'm gonna live, gonna live again
Open the grave, I'm coming out
I'm gonna live, gonna live again
Open the grave, I'm coming out
I'm gonna live, gonna live again
This is the sound of dry bones rattling

Offering

Graves Into Gardens (Maverick City)

Verse 1
I searched the world,
but it couldn't fill me.
Man's empty praise and treasures that fade
are never enough.
Then You came along
and put me back together.
And every desire is now satisfied
here in Your love.

Chorus
Oh, there's nothing
better than You. There's nothing
better than You. Lord, there's nothing,
nothing is better than You.

Verse 2
I'm not afraid
to show You my weakness.
My failures and flaws, Lord You've seen them all,
and You still call me friend.
'Cause the God of the mountain
is the God of the valley.
There's not a place Your mercy and grace
won't find me again.

Chorus (2x)
Oh, there's nothing
better than You. There's nothing
better than You. Lord, there's nothing,
nothing is better than You.

Bridge 1 (2x)
You turn mourning to dancing.
You give beauty for ashes.
You turn shame into glory.
You're the only one who can.

Bridge 2
You turn graves into gardens.
You turn bones into armies.
You turn seas into highways.
You're the only one who can.
You're the only one who can.

Chorus (2x)
Oh, there's nothing
better than You. There's nothing
better than You. Lord, there's nothing,
nothing is better than You.

Bridge 2 (2x)
You turn graves into gardens.
You turn bones into armies.
You turn seas into highways.
You're the only one who can.
You're the only one who can.

Scripture Reading

Zechariah 7:8-10 (NRSV) [Read in Context]

8The word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying: 9Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another; 10do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.

The word of God for the people of God.

All: Thanks be to God!

Children's Message

Sermon

Pastor Shuler Sitsch

Communion

Pastor:
Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him,
who earnestly repent of their sin
and seek to live in peace with one another.
Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

All:
Merciful God,
we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have failed to be an obedient church.
We have not done your will,
we have broken your law,
we have rebelled against your love,
we have not loved our neighbors,
and we have not heard the cry of the needy.
Forgive us, we pray.
Free us for joyful obedience,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

(All pray in silence)

Pastor:
Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners;
that proves God's love toward us.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

All:
In the name of Jesus Christ, WE are forgiven!
Glory to God. Amen.

Pastor:
The Lord be with you.

All:
And also with you.

Pastor:
Lift up your hearts.

All:
We lift them up to the Lord.

Pastor:
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All:
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing,
always and everywhere to give thanks to You,
Almighty God, creator of heaven and earth:
God of Abraham and Sarah,
God of Miriam and Moses,
God of Joshua and Deborah,
God of Ruth and David,
God of the priests and the prophets,
God of Mary and Joseph,
God of the apostles and the martyrs,
God of our mothers and our fathers,
God of our children to all generations.

And so,
with Your people on earth
and all the company of heaven
we praise Your name and join their unending hymn:

All:
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are You, and blessed is Your Son Jesus Christ.
By the baptism of His suffering, death, and resurrection
You gave birth to Your Church,
delivered us from slavery to sin and death,
and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.

On the night in which He gave himself up for us,
He took bread, gave thanks to You, broke the bread,
gave it to His disciples, and said:
Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.

When the supper was over He took the cup,
gave thanks to You, gave it to His disciples, and said:
Drink from this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant,
poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me.

And so,
in remembrance of these Your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving,
as a holy and living sacrifice,
in union with Christ's offering for us,
as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

All:
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here,
and on these gifts of bread and wine.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ,
that we may be for the world the body of Christ,
redeemed by his blood.

Renew our communion with all Your saints
especially those whom we name before You:

David Tharp
All the family and friends we have loved and lost this year

Since we are surrounded
by so great a cloud of witnesses,
strengthen us to run with perseverance
the race that is set before us,
looking to Jesus, the Pioneer and Perfecter of our faith.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ,
one with each other,
and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in final victory,
and we feast at his heavenly banquet.

Through your Son Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,
all honor and glory is yours, almighty God,
now and for ever.

And now, with the confidence of children of God,
let us pray:

All:

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

Because there is one loaf,
we, who are many, are one body,
for we all partake of the one loaf.
The bread which we break is a sharing in the body of Christ.
The cup over which we give thanks is a sharing in the blood of Christ.

Giving the Bread and the Cup

Do It Again (Elevation)

Verse 1
Walking around these walls,
I thought by now they'd fall,
but You have never failed me yet.
Waiting for change to come,
knowing the battle's won,
for You have never failed me yet.

Chorus
Your promise still stands,
great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness.
I'm still in Your hands.
This is my confidence,
You've never failed me yet.

Verse 2
I know the night won't last.
Your word will come to pass.
My heart will sing Your praise again.
Jesus, You're still enough.
Keep me within Your love.
My heart will sing Your praise again.

Chorus (2x)
Your promise still stands,
great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness.
I'm still in Your hands.
This is my confidence,
You've never failed me yet.

Bridge (3x)
I've seen you move,
You move the mountains,
and I believe
I'll see you do it again.
You made a way
where there was no way,
and I believe
I'll see you do it again.

Chorus (2x)
Your promise still stands,
great is Your faithfulness, faithfulness.
I'm still in Your hands.
This is my confidence,
You've never failed me yet.

Ending
And You've never failed me yet,
and I never will forget.
You've never failed me yet,
I never will forget.

Eternal God Prayer

All:

Eternal God, we give You thanks for this holy mystery

in which You have given Yourself to us.

Grant that we may go into the world

in the strength of Your Spirit,

to give ourselves for others,

in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Benediction
